Our History

This park was dedicated to the memory of PFC David P. Kelley Jr., a neighborhood young man who lost his life during World War II. He attended St. Mary’s of Redford and then Catholic Central for High School. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received in battle in 1944. David was killed in action in Germany in March 1945.

The Brothers of Kelly Park (B.O.K.) adopted Kelley Park in 2021 via the Adopt-A-Park Stewardship Program in partnership with the City of Detroit and the Detroit Parks Coalition to beautify and activate Kelley Park.

Kelley Park is a 4.5 acre neighborhood park in northwest Detroit.  The park features a basketball court, a multi-purpose field, playground and picnic areas.

The City of Detroit Parks and Recreation Division received funding for improvements at Kelley Park. The following improvements have been made.
